In order to submit your MCGI application you must have 4 artworks prepared. File sizes should not exceed 6MB each, or 30MB total. Please have your submission materials ready before beginning the application. If you close the submission application, you will lose your progress.

Awards and Scholarships

All submissions will be eligible for a variety of cash prizes (see Cash Prizes, below). If you would also like to apply for workshop or college scholarships, please select them below.

Workshop Scholarships:

Before applying to a workshop scholarship, please ensure you will be available to attend.

Rivers of Steel Arts Workshop: Blacksmitthing Basics: Hooks and Hairpins Workshop
  • Eligibility:
    • Any
  • Description:
    Rivers of Steel Arts will award one student a spot in the Blacksmitthing Basics: Hooks and Hairpins Workshop.
Pittsburgh Glass Center Workshop Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • 3D Sculpture or 3D functional work
    • Grades 9-12
  • Description:
    Pittsburgh Glass Center will award two students with a workshop scholarship valued at up to $400.
Touchstone Center for Crafts Workshop Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be age 14-17 at time of workshop participation for TEEN WEEK
  • Description:
    Touchstone Center for Crafts will award two students with a scholarship to attend Teen Week free of charge.
Fallingwater Workshop Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Students who have completed grades 8-12 during the 2023-2024 school year
  • Description:
    Fallingwater will award one student with a workshop scholarship valued between $250-$1,200.
Contemporary Craft Workshop Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • A parent or guardian must sign a waiver on behalf of any student under the age of 18.
  • Description:
    Contemporary Craft will award one student with a workshop scholarship valued at $95.
Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts Workshop Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Grades 11-12
  • Description:
    Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts will award one student with a workshop scholarship valued between $1,000-$2,000.
Craftsmen's Guild of Pittsburgh Scholarships
  • Eligibility:
    • Enrolled in an accredited college or university, majoring in art education
  • Description:
    Craftsmen's Guild of Pittsburgh will award three students with scholarships valued at $1,000, $1,000, and $800 respectively.
WQED File Academy Workshop Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Rising 9th grader through 2024 grad
    • Video medium preferred; open to digital media or digital photo/film
  • Description:
    WQED will award two students with a scholarship to the WQED Film Academy: https://www.wqed.org/filmacademy/.

*You MUST send a copy of your transcripts to mcginvitational@gmail.com in order to be eligible to receive college scholarships. Please only apply for scholarships at schools that you have already applied to or are planning on applying to.

To receive the following scholarships, you must apply and be accepted to the applicable program.

Eleanor Friedberg Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • High school senior (12th grade)
  • Description:
    Six students will receive scholarships valued up to $6,300, based on a full portfolio submission to attend the four-year school of their choice.
LaRoche University Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Must apply and be accepted to LaRoche University
  • Description:
    Students will receive $8,000 ($2,000/yr) to attend LaRoche University.
Slippery Rock University Arts Program Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Award will be given to an incoming Freshman enrolled in the BFA in Art or BA in Art program and registered for classes.
  • Description:
    Slippery Rock University will award one student with a $500 scholarship.
Carlow University Scholarship
  • Eligibility:
    • Acceptance to Carlow
  • Description:
    Carlow University will award one student with a $3,000 scholarship.

Cash Prizes:

All students will be entered automatically to win cash prizes. To win prizes with specific eligibility requirements (for example, ceramics) you must submit work that meets those requirements.

Academy of Science and Art (Photo Section) Cash Award
  • Eligibility:
    • Photography Students
  • Description:
    Academy of Science and Art (Photo Section) will award five students with $200 each.
Eleanor Friedberg Cash Awards
  • Eligibility:
    • Grades 9-12
  • Description:
    Sponsored by Eleanor Friedberg, these awards are available across multiple categories for students in grades 9-12. Each category will award three students with cash prizes: 1st place $350, 2nd place $250, 3rd place $100. The categories include: - Media - Craft & Design - Painting and Drawing - Photography - Printmaking & Mixed Media - Sculpture & Ceramics - Video, Electronic, and STEAM - Textiles
Hands on Graffiti Tour at Carrie Blast Furnaces
  • Eligibility:
    • Any
  • Description:
    The winner will receive two tickets for a Hands on Graffiti Tour at Carrie Blast Furnaces, valued at $65.
Standard Ceramics Cash Award
  • Eligibility:
    • Ceramics Students
    • Grades 9-12
  • Description:
    Standard Ceramics will award one student with a $250 cash prize.
The Andy Warhol Museum Cash Award
  • Eligibility:
    • A Junior or Senior
  • Description:
    The Andy Warhol Museum will award one student with a $500 cash prize.
Mountain Meadow Farm Award
  • Eligibility:
    • Grades 9-12
  • Description:
    Mountain Meadow Farm will award four students with a $1,000 cash prize each.
The Mattress Factory Cash Award
  • Eligibility:
    • BIPOC student in grades 9-12 who live in 15212, 15214, or 15233 zipcodes
  • Description:
    The Mattress Factory will award one student with a $300 cash prize.
MCG Award
  • Eligibility:
    • Grades 12
  • Description:
    MCG will award one student with a $500 cash prize.
Bill & Rose Strickland Award
  • Eligibility:
    • Grade 12
  • Description:
    Bill & Rose Strickland will award one student with a $500 cash prize.
Dale & Betsy Huffman Award for the Ceramic Arts
  • Eligibility:
    • Non-CAPA Ceramics Students
  • Description:
    Dale & Betsy Huffman will award one student with a $250 cash prize.
